SILVER ROSES

The darkness was thick with tension. Not a single sound came from the mouths of the people in the room as the man walked back and forth with a scary ease. He suddenly stopped and looked at his victim on the cushioned chair. He had about three men waiting diligently like obedient dogs. The only light was from a beautiful ornate lamp near them, emitting soft white light unfitting for the scene unfolding before it. Even the ants and the small insects in the house didn’t dare come out, understanding on some level that something terrible was going on in the house.
The man kneeled down to his victim and brushed a stray hair away from her face. She lay unmoving, an expression of cold detachment on her face as if she had accepted her fate. Her left hand supported her bulging belly, almost 9 months grown. Her right hand stroked her unborn child, a promise to stay together even in death.
There was a poignant beauty in mother and child dying together after all. Neither of them would need to feel guilty in that case.
The man didn’t think so, and he slammed the knife in his hand down to the wood of her chair.
She didn’t even flinch.
His lips trembled with anger. He grabbed her chin to look straight at her cold eyes devoid of emotion.
“You think you’re so great, huh? Completely chill.”
She didn’t grace him with an answer.
“I hate people like you, always fucking pretending, You’re not fooling anybody.” He suddenly grinned, showing shiny golden teeth, eyes set in a manic manner. He leaned in close to her face.
“Your husband was the same as well, absolutely unfazed when he realized his entire life’s work was gone, even when I had a knife up to his throat.”
That got a reaction from her.
The black pupils of her eyes trembled and her hands shook.
The man smirked.
“Made for each other, you two.”
“It wasn’t until I sank that knife in him and told him that I was gonna come after his pretty wife too did something finally show on his irritating face. ”
Her eyes widened and tears started to build p.
She had suspected. Her dear husband, her best friend had not come home for 3 months and she had told him, warned him to be careful of the world he was stepping into. She had been a part of it as well and knew how exactly how far their opponents can go.
And now…
She had to know the truth from this vermin’s mouth.
Grief overtook her body like physical pain as she slumped down, a solitary tear ran down her face.
That was what he had wanted.
Revitalizing energy filled the man’s face. He twirled his knife excitedly and sniggered like a child. Even the surrounding men looked vaguely uncomfortable at his antics.
“That’s it, you’re doing so good.” He grabbed her chin again and licked the tear off her face. Every person in the room suppressed a shudder at the action.
The woman glared at him reproachfully.
He ignored her and caressed her face gently.
“Make me happy before you go, yeah?”
Her eyes struggled to keep her anger inside and finally, her lips moved.
“You’ll pay for this.”
His eyes glinted in interest. He patted her cheeks lightly.
“Sure I will, sweetheart.”
He clipped open the pocketknife and slid it slowly down from her neck to the center of her belly.
And for the first time, fear showed up in her face.
*---------------------*
“No”
Tears were flowing freely and both her hands were tied now.
“Should I stab straight or make a line to get that kid out and then stab them? What do you think I should do, Ma’am?” he leered.
Her eyes beseeched him for a drop of kindness.
“No, not my baby, Please.”
“Oh, maybe we can do a C-section here!”
“Please. I’ll do anything.”
“What was that?”
“Kill me if you want, but please don’t hurt my child.”
“What was that, Ma’am?”
“I beg you.”
The man stopped as though considering it. Even the baby in her belly seemed to notice something was amiss, slightly tensing in her womb.
“Hmmm, How about NO, hah?, AHAHAHAHAHA.”
He grabbed the back of her chair.
“Goodbye, Gouri Ahuja.”
Her body trembled and all the hope left her eyes.
He pulled his knife back and swung.
*--------------------*

Gouri wondered why she didn’t feel any pain, she could hear the knife hitting something. It wasn’t until blood sprayed her eyes did she open them and saw the crazed man choke on his spit. He screamed.
She slowly turned her head and saw his hand pierced to the top of the chair, shivering and blood flowing in rivulets.
A dark silhouette emerged from the shadows, striding forward with calm steady steps and stopping in front of their little entourage.
Bright silver shone from the person’s earlobes and on closer inspection, Gouri realized with a start that the person was female. She had a face which was the exact definition of what people called “As beautiful as the Moon”. She was dressed quite normally in a brown shirt and long black coat, hands in her deep pocket. Only her eyes set her apart from her lovely appearance, infused with killing intent.
The man’s eyes lit up in recognition, pain momentarily forgotten. The srronding men dropped their weapons in shock, startled back.
“Silver Earrings....”
“Its Seismic!”
“F*ck, what..what do we do?”

“Hey, Rose” her voice was deceptively melodic, completely unsuitable for a girl who had just decapitated a person’s hand.
The man grinned down at her.
“Well, well, looks like the night just got a lot better.”
He pulled the knife out with barely a flinch.
“So that’s what you look like, finally I got to see.”
Beside them, the men were panicking and whispered. “She’s not wearing her mask, does that mean…”
“So tell me, how do you like the name?”
“Entirely undeserving,” her eyes said.
As though reading her mind, he replied.
“What can I say, I really like pretty things, y’know?” Rose, the murderer stroked the shocked Gouri’s face, spreading the blood on her face.
“Stop touching her, you monster.”
“Oh”
Rose gave a smile of pure evil.
“I was gonna look for you, but it seems you’ve come to me.” He tore off a strip of cloth from his clothes and wrapped it around his hand.
“Seismic, the Destroyer. Spreading silver death all around her in a perfect radius, ahahaha”
He twirled his knife and smirked darkly. “I think I’ll have some fun with you too.”
He looked at his men and scowled.
“Well, What are you waiting for? Go catch her.”
The men shivered.
“Sir, Its just that, her face…is uncovered.”
There was a reason no one had ever gotten a glimpse of Seismic’s face despite her many fights.
None had ever lived past the night.
Rose burst right into his subordinate’s face.
“I wasn’t requesting you, 26.”
26 sunk his head. It was either death by this lunatic or death by Seismic. And he chooses the latter. At least he would die in the hands of an enemy.
Two of them ran forward at the girl and without blinking, she kicked her leg in a wide arch, a knife at the edge of the shoe.
The two fell instantly, throats slit.
She side-stepped the bodies and casually walked forward.
The third man’s hands were shaking. Rose put his hand over his shoulder and whispered in his ear.
“Don’t let the bitch get close, k?”
The man quickly leant down and took the gun he dropped. He clipped off the safety and aimed.
A resounding bang rang throughout the house, it had clearly hit something.
“Did I get her, Rose? Did I-
His words were cut off by the blood filling his lungs. He choked and fell down, drowning in his blood.
Behind him, Seismic cleaned off the blood from her knife, wiping it on a tablecloth. Her sharp eyes turned back to look at the man who had instigated all this.
Rose scratched his head and laughed.
“Well, That was anticlimactic. Should’ve known they couldn’t take you down.”
He shook off the remaining blood from his hand and turned on her with a smirk.
“But that just means I’ve gotten you all to myself, Haven’t I, Irya?”
Her eyes flashed in sudden anger and she almost made to stab him again. Before stopping and allowing herself to analyze the situation. There was Mrs. Ahuja tied behind them with child, Rose could turn on her any second. That meant she had to lead him away from them. Rose was not a normal opponent to be callous with. In addition to him, she had a person to protect.
Seismic took a deep breath.
She threw another knife at him which he dodged easily. She kept the barrage of knives going on, slowly forcing him to step away from the lady.
“Now this is just annoying.” He stopped dodging and jumped towards her, one of her knives aimed right back at her. She swerved and grabbed his wrist to deflect it. But that was enough of an opening for him to punch her across the face.
It was the kind that sent grown men flying in the air, but Seismic grabbed on the table and deflected his next punch. She sharply kicked him in the shin making him double down.
Gouri watched as her savior and tormentor went at each other, swerving and dodging like two leopards, a moment's hesitation meaning death. Finally, Seismic got the edge for a second as she got her hands on the curtain. That was enough for her to turn the pace around, tying it swiftly around Rose. She profusely grabbed his head and pulled it down to her knee, hitting again and again until blood stained the curtain and Rose stilled.
She looked back at the woman in the chair and smiled.
