You Will Find Misfortune in Moonlit Nights
On the Day: ~XX~ Month: ~XXX~ Year: ~XXXX~......
Sirens pitching closer and closer from a distance, glass shattered on the road, vision red with blood....Glass shattered on the ground.... The smell of wine..... Sirens getting louder.... Consciousness fading.....*
It was after a long day after work when I decided to treat myself to a fancy dinner. I packed up early that evening and drove to a bar near the area and got myself a medium rare steak and waited with anticipation for Jupiter's wine.
Jupiter is the owner of the bar and being a regular customer he would allow me to enjoy his home made wine which he has mostly kept to himself sharing it with only his closest companions and certain individuals. Just as sure as the hospitality and special care this bar gave me, it also made it's way into my heart as my favorite place to indulge myself in.
Whilst I was enjoying my steak, Jupiter excitedly made an announcement that he was getting married and he'll be closing his bar for the ceremony and other events henceforth. Shocked and happily surprised we all, including myself cheered on Jupiter congratulating him as he went and provided us all with drinks on the house.
As I was enjoying the "beer on the house", a stranger, a man who seemed to be fit in an outfit for a Radiohead concert approached and sat next to me speaking to me like we've known each other for a while.
I'm an essential loner and I have never done well with conversations that aren't going to either profit or be somewhat productive for me. I smiled and looked away and tried avoiding eye contact with the strange fellow as much as possible when all of a sudden, he burst out laughing and gave me compliment saying that I looked pretty and trying, trying hard to be cool. Little did he know I was just being myself.
After I had finished my steak, I walked across the bar towards the counter and ordered a Corona~Lemon drink for myself. As I sat there feeling a bit stressed by the strange man, I flipped my hair across my shoulders and as it swayed to the side I noticed it swept across someone. I unknowingly slapped his face with my hair flip. I quickly turned around and apologised, however, he suddenly moved closer to me and whispered, saying that he was in need of help and then quickly dashed out of the bar towards the parking lot. For some reason my feet were quick to act on their own and I found myself following him.
Running out of the bar I went to look for him but instantly lost him outside. Suddenly, I heard loud footsteps rushing towards me as I quickly turned towards them. There he was, as he dashed towards me, breathing hard and panting like a dog, his sweat smelt like pineapple for some reason unbeknownst to me. He quickly grabbed my hand and pulled me along with him behind to the outside of the bar and asked me for my name, to which I smiled and replied: "Saviour, Your saviour". He looked at me with such a gentle looking smile and giggled a little. He then proceeded to ask me why I would go out of my way to quickly help a stranger with his request despite not knowing the dangers she could face. I scoffed and replied: "I've lived a boring and simple life all these years. I'm tired of being the "good girl" everybody wants to see me be and typically hates, you know? The attention seeker and all those names I've heard people call me". I rolled my eyes feeling a bit embarrassed, he smiled and asked me if I was with somebody else at the moment, I nodded my head sideways saying no. He then held my hand and asked me if I could drive him to a place he wanted to show to me. Since I've had quite a bit of alcohol that evening, I was feeling a little adventurous so I laughed and excitedly agreed to go. I grabbed his hand and together ran for my car. We talked and talked and laughed and at some time I felt like I was a teenager enjoying her rebellious years. Looking at myself right now enjoying this moment with him, feeling so alive, made me realise all these years, all I ever did everyday of my life from morning to dusk, just work, work and work and off to my home I go and then back to work. However, now in this moment I can finally do something out of the box for once in my life.
We were quickly arriving to the location he directed me to and thank goodness I was feeling a lot more conscious now that the effects of the alcohol had started to dwindle. We had arrived to what seemed to be a narrow drive-way and it was already past midnight by the time we arrived. I decided to turn on the music system and put on Radiohead thinking he'd like it. He smiled and asked me if I was jsut taking a guess by looking at his clothes. I simply and nodded and we both laughed. Soon after, the path we were on lead to a dead end. I looked at him and laguhed saying: "So you wanted to show me nothing?". He smiled and asked me to get out of the car. As I was doing so, he quickly got out as well, grabbed my hand and and pulled me towards a small path-way which was covered with bushes and shrubs covered in thorns and flowers and whatever nature was growing around the area. However I wasn't too afraid going with the man, as I always carried a pocket knife with me wherever I went. I went along with the man and on the way I asked him what his name was. He quickly stopped and turned towards me and kissed me. I was caught by surprise and was too stunned to speak. He smiled and started walking faster, increasing his pace.
Then, I could hear the sound of waves washing into the land and as we ventured further into the night, I was amazed with what I was about to witness. The dark night sky lit up by the moon's radiance with shimmering stars littered all around above us. Their light, shining towards the ocean water as it continues to wash up onto the shore. The soft sand of the beach and the ocean waves sounded so blissful in unison. All of it felt unreal..... Too unreal, as I flicked my senses back to myself and remembered that I was still out in the middle of nowhere with a stranger whom I've never met before in my life. I looked at him, as he had taken his shoes off and sat down on the sand with his feet touching the water. He patted the ground with his hand in such a way as if asking me to join him. I then also took off my shoes and say besides him and wondered to myself what I was doing again.
He laid his head on my shoulder and asked me what if the world was nothing but a ball of maps, pages of paper maps that had been crumpled together to form one giant map. I giggled and said it's like saying the sun is just a big ball of fire. We both laughed and as we looked at eachother, he slowly got closer and closer to me. I caved and fell back as he leaned over me. Thinking we were gon a kiss again, I thought to myself that I might never see him again after this moment. I have never fallen in love before. Nobody has ever made me feel light-hearted like this. As I closed my eyes awaiting the inevitable kiss, I felt something else.
Suddenly, it felt as if huge, heavy weights were pressing down on my shoulders. I felt like I was being crushed but I knew the alcohol's effects had fully diminished by that time and that this was a strong sense of pain I couldn't neglect. When I opened my eyes, I was shocked and stunned to see what lay before me. A beast resembling a wolf but with a humanoid figure and the body of a hulking man. Then I finally realised the horror and started screaming at the top of my lungs and kicked him or whatever the beast was that was on top of me and then I started running away.
It seemed to quickly transform back into the man who brought me here in the first place. The man shouted to me:"Girl!! Where are you going!? I thought we were having a moment there!".
I turned back to check and see, there he was a fine young man standing under the moonlit sky. However, the pain I felt as I noticed my shoulder bleeding as well wouldn't be a lie. I quickly turned around and ran for my car as fast as I could and drive back to Jupiter's bar.
When I got there I told him everything that happened, Jupiter listened to me attentively and then proceeded to close all the blinds on his windows. He said: "Thank goodness me you drank the wine. He can't sniff you out here not find you thanks to my special remedy". He then started patching my shoulder up and warned me of creatures that wear the skin of humans to resemble them in disguise, and his ancestors named them "lycanthrope" or in other words, "werewolves", and that they rarely exist anymore these days.
However, Jupiter still believes that such creatures still roam around to this day, which is why he had concocted his special wine for those dear to him, which helps ward off these dangerous creatures. Jupiter tells me that his ancestors were people who hunted these dangerous creatures in order to protect the civilisation of their areas. They had successfully hunted a large amount of these lycanthropes which led to them dwindling to scarce numbers to this day. He told me that the marriage he had announced earlier today was nothing but a lie. It was all set up so he could disguise his absence from the bar as a ceremony, to which he would actually go hunting for the rest of these foul creatures. He knew this wasn't the first time such a situation has occurred recently. He smiled at me and handed me a bottle of the wine and told me to be careful on my way back home.
I then drove back home and wondered to myself if what I really saw was real, given the fact that I had been drinking a lot during the past evening.
Suddenly, I felt light-headed and my vision was getting blurry when I felt a breeze of cold air on the back of my neck. Chills ran down my spine as I slowly looked towards the rear-view mirror and to my surprise and horror, there sitting in the back seat of my car, the Radiohead stranger. Following his presence, I fainted and blacked out while driving.
